By using Writeblock, you agree to these terms. Your content is yours. The app is provided as-is.
By downloading, installing, or using Writeblock ("the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the app.
These Terms constitute a legal agreement between you and Writeblock ("we," "us," or "our"). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Writeblock is a habit-forming app that helps you build a daily journaling practice by blocking selected apps on your device until you write a journal entry. When you write a diary entry of at least 50 characters, your blocked apps unlock. The app uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) to manage app restrictions.
Writeblock is designed as a personal productivity tool. It is not a substitute for professional mental health services or treatment.
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Writeblock. By using the app, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
Writeblock is licensed for your personal, non-commercial use only. You agree not to:
You retain full ownership of all journal entries and content you create within Writeblock. We do not claim any rights to your content.
Since all content is stored locally on your device (or in your personal iCloud account if you enable sync), we do not have access to, and cannot view, your journal entries. You are solely responsible for the content you create and for maintaining backups of your data.
Writeblock collects no personally identifiable information. The only data sent off your device to us is anonymous, aggregate usage analytics (which steps you reach in the app), and only if you allow it — never your diary content, photos, or audio. We ask right after onboarding, and you can change this anytime in Settings. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Writeblock is free to download. The following are free forever, with no purchase required:
App blocking (the Screen Time feature) is free to try for one week. After the trial, unlocking it permanently requires a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase of $9.99 (USD; regional Apple pricing applies). This is a single purchase, not a subscription — there are no recurring charges. If you choose not to buy it, app blocking simply turns off; your diary, sync, and export keep working for free.
The purchase is processed through the Apple App Store. By making a purchase, you agree to Apple's terms and conditions for App Store transactions. Re-downloads and the purchase are restored for free on the same Apple ID.
All refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policy. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not process refunds directly.
The Writeblock app, including its design, code, graphics, logos, and user interface, is the intellectual property of Writeblock and is protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws.
As stated in Section 5, all journal content you create within the app remains your property.
Writeblock's core functionality relies on Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework). When you write a diary entry of at least 50 characters, your blocked apps unlock. If you don't write an entry, blocking is automatically lifted at the end of the day (4:00 AM) and your streak resets — there is no time limit on how long blocking can last within a day.
